Ferris Well Represented at Chemical Society Meeting
A number of Ferris members attended last week’s National Chemical Society meeting in Orlando, Fla. Pasquale Di Raddo, professor of Organic Chemistry, presented a paper entitled “A Mechanistic Representation for the Synthesis of the Tetracycline Antibiotics,” based on a lab done in Chemistry 222. Kelley Templin, AAS ‘02, co-authored the paper and also attended the meeting. Templin also was present at a number of presentations dealing with chemical education.
Alumni of Ferris’ ICT program also were in attendance and gave papers in the Division of Chemical Technology: John Engelmann (AAS ’64) of SC Johnson in Racine, gave three presentations; David Dellar (AAS ’84)of Dow Chemical in Midland gave one; and Alan Hopkins (AAS ’89) of the Aerospace Corporation, presented a talk on his research work, as well. Also at the meeting were Pete Balanda, assistant professor of organic and polymer chemistry, and Guillermo Flores, a graduate of the off-campus ICT certificate program at Pfizer.
