Dr. Di Raddo Presents at the 33rd ACS Great Lakes/Central Regional Meeting

Four faculty members of the physical sciences department made presentations at this summer's 33rd Great Lakes/Central Regional Meeting, June 11-13 in Grand Rapids.

Pasquale Di Raddo, professor of chemistry, discussed "Meeting the Challenges for Chemical Technicians with an Innovative Certificate Program," about the Ferris Industrial Chemistry Technology course offerings and certificate program for chemical technicians at the Pfizer plant in Holland.

Dan Adsmond, associate professor of chemistry, and his student Daniel Grabill, presented a poster "An Investigation of the Effects of Molecular Changes on the Binding Preferences of Amidines," based on a study of how different structural parts of a molecule come to recognize and bind to each other.

Colleen Partigianoni, assistant professor of chemistry, spoke on "Don't Slay Them, SLA Them," about how the Structured Learning Assistance program has assisted freshmen chemistry students with their study skills.

David V. Frank, departmental chair of physical sciences, spoke on "Co-operative Learning and Inquiry-Based Science Courses for Preservice Teachers," concerning co-operative learning and inquiry based strategies that pre-high school teachers can employ in their classrooms in the area of earth and physical sciences.
