 Mathematics Department - College of Arts and Sciences The Department of Mathematics provides a variety of programs of study. A student may prepare to be an applied mathematician, concentrating in actuarial science, operations research, computer science, or statistics. Additionally, a student may prepare to teach mathematics, or acquire the necessary mathematics preparation for professional studies such as engineering, pharmacy, and optometry, or earn an undergraduate liberal arts degree in mathematics. Specialized mathematics courses are provided to support student needs in a variety of majors throughout the university. We offer a Mathematics minor and a Computer Science minor which support and enhance any baccalaureate program. Also, the department provides service courses in mathematics and computer science for programs throughout the university, and that meet the university requirement in quantitative skills.
