DECA Scholarship Criteria
The following criteria shall be used to select recipients of DECA Scholarships at Ferris State:
- Applicants for the scholarships must be high school seniors who have been a DECA member for a minimum of one year.
- Applicants for the scholarships shall have earned a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.00 or above (on a 4.0 scale) and a minimum ACT composite of 21 or higher.
- Financial need is not a criteria for selection.
- Application deadline is April 30.
- Applicants must submit two required recommendations: (see form)
- One from their DECA advisor.
- And one from a high school teacher, administrator, coach or an employer.
- Applicants must submit a short essay with the application, responding to the question "Why I am interested in business as a career?" (see application form).
- Scholarship winners will be announced by May 30.
- The scholarship funds will be applied in the second semester of the recipient's first year provided:
- The student is enrolled in the marketing, advertising, public relations, or e-commerce marketing programs offered by the Ferris State University College of Business Marketing Department.
- And the student has maintained a 2.5 cumulative grade point in the first semester at FSU.
- If a selected recipient does not accept the scholarship, the fund will be offered to the next eligible applicant. If none exists, the funds will be maintained in the account until the next academic year.
- Two scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded. Funds will be credited to the recipient's University account to be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and educational supply expenses.
