Students and faculty to be involved in insurance industry blockchain projects

Big Rapids, MI, September 30, 2019– Ferris State University recently became a non-profit member of The Institutes RiskStream CollaborativeTM, the risk management and insurance industry’s largest enterprise-level blockchain consortium. The RiskStream Collaborative’s mission is to unlock the potential of blockchain across the insurance industry by accelerating time to market and the adoption of real-world applications and impactful blockchain use cases.

Ferris State University offers both Risk Management and Insurance as well as Information Technology academic degrees. These programs include conceptual elements of blockchain technologies and use cases within the curriculum. Risk Management and Insurance program coordinator and lead faculty member Dr. David A. Brown, explained the RiskStream Collaborative membership.

“Students and faculty in both the risk management and insurance as well as information technology programs will now have opportunities to be involved in the earliest blockchain use cases for the insurance industry,” Dr. Brown said. “This is an incredible opportunity to both observe and even help shape potential game-changing implementations of blockchain technology.”

According to Dr. Brown, Ferris State’s non-profit membership in RiskStream Collaborative demonstrates Ferris State’s commitment to hands on learning. Ferris State students and faculty will be able to attend conferences, participate in working groups, engage in research, and be on the front line for insurance industry blockchain projects.
