Professional activities and areas of interest
Professor Jones joined the the College of Business at Ferris State University in 1990 to teach advertising classes and to serve as the marketing department's expert in direct marketing. Since then she has broadened her teaching and research interests to include e-commerce marketing. Professor Jones was a pioneer in online teaching, offering the world's first online direct marketing class beginning in January, 1998.
Since then she has developed and facilitated three 100% online certificates for Ferris State University: Business-to-Business Marketing, Direct Marketing, and E-Commerce Marketing. She also serves as facilitator for Ferris State's 100% online E-Commerce Marketing minor. Professor Jones is a prolific author who has developed textbooks for several of the classes she teaches, including: Readings and Cases in Integrated Marketing Communications (AIMC 486); Creative Strategy in Direct and Interactive Marketing (MKTG 383); Business-to-Business Internet Marketing (ECOM 375); and Business-to-Business Marketing (AIMC 375). She also is the author, co-author or editor of 25 other books.
Professor Jones facilitates the All-Advertising/IMC Majors' Meeting each semester, and she coordinates the activities of the Advertising/IMC and E-Commerce Marketing Advisory Boards. She is a long-time trustee of the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing (CADM) Educational Foundation; a columnist for CADM's monthly adMarks newsletter; a member of the Direct Marketing Association Professors' Group; a member of the Direct Marketing Association of Detroit; and a member of the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing.
Professor Jones regularly publishes and presents papers on subjects related to direct and interactive marketing. She has won numerous awards both as a practitioner and as a professor, including: Charles Downs Award of the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing; Robert Clarke Award of the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation; Andi Emerson Award of the John Caples International Awards; Alumni Service Award from Northwestern University, and membership in the Medill School of Journalism Hall of Achievement at Northwestern University. Her personal interests include reading, travel, holistic well-being, and classic movies. She tweets @sjones9200.
