  • Dr. Greg Gogolin - Recovering Lost Data

    April 8th, 2015Dr. Greg Gogolin, Information Security and Intelligence Professor at Ferris State University has been conducting research to recover lost data. CD's and DVD's are data known as Optical Data. With the availability of CD's, DVD's  and burners, it is possible to create many copies to be made by consumers. Damage to optical data can become tragic if the only copy of the data was detroyed or damaged. Researchers are currently working on recovering data, but they have discovered a process that may be able to recover lost data.  Dr. Gogolin said, "While we haven't solved all of the challenges necessary for effiecient data recovery from damaged optical data, we have moved forward in terms of refining what is possible....

  • ISI Professor Exchange with Saxion University

    February 10th, 2015December, 2014 - Gerald Emerick, a professor in the Information Security and Intelligence program, visited Saxion University, The Netherlands in December 2014 as part of a faculty exchange between Ferris and Saxion. Professor Emerick delivered a seminar in Information Security titled SQL Injection Attacks and Privilege Escalation to two classes of Saxion students. Students were able to safely simulate the cyber attacks and countermeasures using Internet cloud technology that is utilized within the ISI program. The seminar was included in Saxion’s curriculum and the Saxion students satisfied a course requirement by attending the seminar.   • College of Business Alum Wins LinkedIn Contest

    January 15th, 2015LinkedIn and 20th-Century Fox created the “Taken 3 Particular Set of Skills" contest. The contest was conducted through LinkedIn, in which a member’s profile was judged for particular skill sets. The prize of this contest was a video of Taken 3’s Brian Mills (Liam Neeson) talking about the winner’s skills.  Ferris State University’s College of Business Alum Casey Wiggins entered and won that contest. In the video, Brian Mills (Liam Neeson) showcases Casey's skills such as computer forensics, network security and vunerability assessment, as well as his place of education.   • ISI Professor's Book Contributes to Landmark US Supreme Court Case

  • Information Security and Intelligence Students Take 2nd Place at CCDC

    March 6th, 2014  A team of students from the Ferris State Information Security and Intelligence program recently competed in the Cyber Collegiate Defense Competition (CCDC) and were honored with a 2nd place state-wide ranking. ISI professor Gerald Emerick and Adjunct Professor Vel Pavlov advised the team. Both faculty members led the students in active security offense and defense. The team included Captain Eric Hendershott, Adam Logue, Aron Dignum, Benjamin Thompson, Joseph Schlehuber, Nick Galloway, Robert Garcia, and Ryan Griffin. The competition required students to take on a defense role, labeled as the blue team.
