About the Jazz Band

The FSU Jazz Band performs traditional and contemporary literature for big band, along with additional instruction in improvisation. We invite all interested players to join the Jazz Band.

Membership

The FSU Jazz Band performs traditional and contemporary literature for big band, along with additional instruction in improvisation. Membership is open by audition to University students and members of the community. Auditions are required for new and returning members. The auditions are held on Monday and Wednesday evening during the first week of classes. We invite all interested players to join the Jazz Band.

Rehearsals

Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30–6:45 p.m.
Music Center 108

Credit

Yes! Music 280: Jazz Ensemble.
Meets General Education requirements: Cultural Enrichment. 1 Credit, repeatable.

Scholarships

Yes! Activity-Based Scholarships awarded based on attendance, contributions to ensemble and number of performances.

In most circumstances, students must be members in good standing and be participating in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Please contact Director Matthew Moresi for specific requirements and expectations.

The scholarships are awarded as Ability-Based Scholarships by the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. A maximum of $1,500 can be awarded in a single year, and specific rules govern the award.
