Ferris through the Years

"Ferris through the Years" is a photographic journey surveying the expansion and growth of the institution's physical facilities and grounds. For approximately 40% of the Ferris history, the institution was represented by a building commissioned by Woodbridge Nathan Ferris himself. That building, known as "Old Main" was destroyed by fire in 1950. With the institute's future in question, the state infused Ferris with new life, hope and growth.

The Ferris Gallery exhibit consists of aerial views of the campus that display its growth through the years from a one building facility into the world class university that exists today. The exhibit displays the changes that took a pastoral area of fields, farms and a few small businesses and transforms them into an energized, dynamic center of higher learning. The exhibited photos display the various stages of this transformation and invite the viewer to seek out landmarks, buildings and sites contained within them. "Ferris through the Years" is part of the University's 125th anniversary celebration which will take place during the 2009-2010 school year.

Please join us for a reception and program on September 10 at 5:30 p.m. to mark the official opening of the display.
