Perhaps
the image of Bill Sederburg that will endure longest on the campus
of Ferris State University appears on a giant canvas in the Arts
and Sciences Commons. He never stood still to pose for the painting,
and in fact, the image itself is dynamic: a man in motion, sleeves
rolled up, a sheaf of blueprints tucked under his arm.
There
is work to be done.
The image fits Sederburg’’s own view of how he will
be remembered—as a builder of buildings, a growth-oriented president
who expanded the University’s presence across the state.
“A person’s legacy can usually be summed up in two
or three words—in my case, ‘library’ and ‘merger.’ Our merger with
Kendall College of Art and Design was a huge event for both institutions.
And FLITE is such a great facility—when we finished the library,
I knew my legacy was established.”
FLITE and the Kendall merger—both noteworthy achievements.
But perhaps every so often, when a tour group stops to admire “The
Visionary,” the guide will point out William A. Sederburg and recall
for the visitors what else he did for Ferris.
