Testing Tips
Before arrival:
- Take some time to learn about the test you are about to take by going to Test Subject Areas
or to The College Board
and clicking on the appropriate test title.
- Arrive early so that you may find a parking place, locate Institutional
Research and Testing in the Center for Student Services, and get settled comfortably before
testing begins. Allow some extra time in case you are delayed
unexpectedly.
- Bring everything with you that you will need--personal picture
identification and your credit card, check or money order to cover the
fee. (See Test Administration Policy for additional information.) Wear layers of clothing so that you can adjust to the
temperature of the testing lab.
- Do not bring a calculator to the exam. If a calculator is required,
it is built into the testing software.
During testing:
- Listen carefully to instructions given by the test administrator and read
the on-screen instructions carefully.
- Keep an eye on the clock and the timing that is built into the testing
software. Make sure that you are not working too slowly. You should
have answered at least half of the questions in a section when half the time
for that section has passed. If you have not reached this point, speed
up your pace on the remaining questions.
- Read the entire question, including all of the answer choices, and then
choose your answer. Sometimes one answer choice is partially correct
but another option is better. Read all of the answer choices before you
choose one.
- Read and consider every question.
- Do not spend too much time on any one question. Mark the question
using the mark tool at the bottom of the screen and go back to review it
later.
- Make educated guesses if you don't know the answer. It is to your
benefit to guess if you do not know an answer. Your score will be
based on "rights-only" scoring.
