FAQ

Q:
Who is allowed to visit overnight?
A:
Any high school juniors or seniors who are 16-years-old or older and are in good standing at their schools are welcome to participate. You must submit an Application Form, along with the Authorization & Waiver Form signed by your parent(s) or legal guardian. Your date is confirmed once we recive the completed waiver form.

Q:
How much does it cost?
A:
Nothing - your visit is on us! We will also provide free meal passes for the duration of your stay.

Q:
Where will I stay?
A:
You will stay overnight in an ambassadors' room in Clark Hall, located on our main campus near the library, football field and several academic buildings. All ambassadors' rooms have an extra bed specifically for your stay.

Q:
When can I visit?
A:
Visitors are invited to arrive any time between the hours of 5:00 through 8:00pm on Thursday evening. If possible, students are asked to make the trip after school that day. Please let us know your estimated time of arrival so we can make sure your ambassador will be available to meet you. Depending on schedules, visits should be over by early afternoon on Friday. The dates that ambassadors are available are as follows:

Fall 2008

Spring 2009

September: 18, 25
January: 22, 29
October: 2, 9, 23, 30
February: 5, 12, 19, 26
November: 6, 20
March: 19, 26
December: 4
April: 2, 16, 23

Q:
What should I bring?
A:
Ferris will supply linens (sheets, blankets and towels). You only need to bring your personal items - pillow, toiletries, clothes for the gym (if desired) and for the next day, etc. Don't forget your toothbrush!

Q:
What should I expect to see and do?
A:
That's up to you and your ambassador! Possible activities include attending group meetings, working out at the recreation center, attending a play, eating in the dining hall, studying in the library, attending sporting events and many more opportunities. Feel free to check our events calendar for upcoming activities. On Friday, you will be able to shadow the ambassador in his/her class.

Q:
How do I get there?
A:
Ferris State University is located in Big Rapids, Michigan, just north of Grand Rapids and west of Mount Pleasant. Unfortunately, you'll need to arrange your own transportation. If you drive, we will provide you with a parking permit to park on campus. If you need to rely on public transportation, Indian Trails bus service has a station at our Racquet and Fitness Center. The closest airport is located in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Q:
Can I bring a friend with me?
A:
Friends are welcome to participate in the overnight visit program, but they must apply separately and will stay with a different ambassador. It's up to the ambassador whether or not your activities for the evening will coincide. Again it is a first come, first server so please make sure your friend sends in their information in a timely manor.

Q:
How about my parents - can they visit campus, too?
A:
Parents are more than welcome to visit our campus at any time. However, the overnight visit program is strictly for prospective students. After all, students will be here alone when they enroll. There are several hotels in Big Rapids to accommodate parents. You may access a list of accommodations here.

Q:
What if I know a friend who attends Ferris - can I spend time with them?
A:
You are required to stay with your ambassador for all of Thursday evening until you are dropped off at Admissions on Friday. Please understand that this is for our protection as well as yours. Once you leave our office, you are free to do as you please. In the meantime, it's up to your ambassador whether or not both of you can meet up with your friend.

Q:
Will I be matched up with an ambassador in my program?
A:
We only have 12 ambassadors, so there aren't enough to represent all 160 academic programs on campus! However, we will try our best to match you up with an ambassador who is in a related field. For more information on our ambassadors, check out their profiles.
