WHY SHOULD I ATTEND CLASS REGISTRATION AND ORIENTATION? |
At Orientation, you will receive a comprehensive explanation of everything you must do to make your college experience complete. You will meet with academic advisors who will explain the university's academic requirements and all the campus resources available to you. Academic advisors will recommend courses for your upcoming semester and help you outline your coming years at Ferris. And, you’ll also register for your fall semester classes! You'll also be able to get your student ID card picture taken, get answers to any Financial Aid, housing, health center and parking permit questions-all in one stop! If you have any doubts concerning the importance of Orientation, come anyway--we promise you'll be glad you did! |
| |
HOW AND WHEN DO I REGISTER? |
When you attend Orientation, you'll register for classes! You will meet one-on-one with an academic advisor from your confirmed major who will assist you in registering for the correct classes as they apply towards your major and graduation. |
| |
HOW LONG IS CLASS REGISTRATION AND ORIENTATION? |
Orientation for those students starting Summer semester (in May) or starting Fall semester (in August) will be a one-day event. You’ll usually be finished by early afternoon. Orientation for those students starting Spring semester (in January) will be a two-day event. You’ll have a half-day session on the first day and schedule a specific appointment time to register for your classes on the next day. |
| |
WHAT DO WE DO AT CLASS REGISTRATION AND ORIENTATION BESIDES REGISTER FOR CLASSES? |
The Orientation program includes getting your ID card picture taken, talking to Financial Aid, Business Office, Housing and Health Center. You'll also learn more about your program through your academic counselor and also register for your classes! |
| |
HOW MUCH DOES ORIENTATION COST? |
The cost for this two-day Orientation is included in your $150 enrollment fee. If you have not paid this fee yet, it will be added to your student account after you attend Orientation. |
| |
WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND ORIENTATION? |
For your own benefit, we strongly encourage attendance to an Orientation session. However, we understand that for some students, special circumstances and long distances make this difficult. You may want to contact your Dean's office to see if any special arrangements can be made. Click here for Dean's Offices |
| |
DO I STILL HAVE TO ATTEND ORIENTATION IF I'VE ALREADY SPOKEN WITH AN ADVISOR? |
We highly recommend attending an Orientation Session even after speaking with an advisor. Orientation also includes in-depth information about your program, graduation requirements, tutoring, support services and other available resources. You'll also be able to take care of any necessary paperwork, get your ID card picture taken and talk to Financial Aid, Business Office, Housing, Health Center and Public Safety too! |
| |
IS THERE AN ORIENTATION FOR PARENTS? |
Yes, there is! For most of our Orientation program, you and your parents will be together. However, while you're registering for classes, we will have a parent session that will cover financial aid, housing, business office and health center just to name a few! |
| |
WHEN DO I GET MY ID CARD? |
| For those students starting in January or May, you'll be able to get your ID picture taken during orientation and return that afternoon to pick it up at the Student Services desk inside the Timme Center for Student Services. For those students starting in August, you'll have your picture taken for your student ID card during Class Registration and Orientation. If you will be living in the residence hall, you'll get your ID card when you check into your residence hall. If you'll be living off campus or in family housing, you can pick up your ID card from the Student Services desk inside the Timme Center for Student Services starting August 24, 2007. |

HOW DO I APPLY TO LIVE IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS? |
You need to fill out a Housing & Dining Contract signature card (attached to the cover of your Housing & Dining Contract booklet that was enclosed with your acceptance letter or mailed to you from the Housing Office) and also pay a $200 housing deposit to guarantee your room. If you need a Housing & Dining Contract booklet, please contact our Residential Life Office at 1-800-4-FERRIS (1-800-433-7747), ext 3745 or housing@ferris.edu |

HOW DO I GET A PARKING PERMIT? |
All parking on the Ferris State University campus is by permit only. Students, including freshmen, are allowed to bring a vehicle on campus. Because of the limited parking on campus, Public Safety has adopted a policy of strict enforcement to protect the rights of those who observe the regulations. So, you will need to park your car ONLY in the lot you've been assigned. Public Safety may ticket your car if you do not follow the parking regulations.
Keep in mind that most parking lots are NOT located just outside the residence halls! Most parking lots for students living in the residence halls are located around the perimeter of the campus. This allows for easier and safer travel of our students between classes. You will find it is easier to walk to each class instead of looking for a parking spot!
For the complete Parking Rules and Regulations, follow the link below for the Public Safety page:
