Work Study
is a work award. Students who would like to be considered for
Work Study must first apply for financial aid even if they do
not wish to be considered for any other type of aid. A student
qualifies for Work Study on the basis of need and by indicating
on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that
they would accept an employment award as part of their financial
aid package. Fund availability is a factor in the awarding process,
so it is crucial to meet the required financial aid application
deadline. The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid will notify the student of
this award on an Award Notice. The Award Notice reflects the
amount the student may earn for the year.
Work
Study is funded through the state or federal government. Students
hired under Work Study are "free" to the employing
department. Ferris does match 20/25 percent of the total
dollars given to the University.
Students
not receiving Work Study are referred to as "Non-Financial
Aid" students because they do not have a work award.
Students working without a work award are funded entirely
by each department's student employment budget.
