The Native American Tuition Waiver is awarded to students who are at least ¼ Native American and have been residents of the state of Michigan for at least one year. You can to go to ITCMI to view information on the tuition waiver, and to print off the application form. This form must be completed by the student and his/her tribe and returned to the Michigan Inter–Tribal Council, along with proof of residency.
After the student has been certified as eligible, The Michigan Inter-Tribal Council will send Ferris State University a letter confirming the student's eligibility.
The student must also submit a Native American Tuition Waiver Request form to the financial aid office indicating his/her enrollment plans for the upcoming year.
Native American Tuition Waiver awards pay up to a maximum of 15 undergraduate credit hours per semester or up to a maximum of 9 graduate level credit hours per semester. The form for the upcoming year will be available on–line by April 15th.
Students receiving the Native American Tuition Waiver are subject to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards, must be enrolled in a degree granting program/certificate (certificate must be at least 24 cr. for financial aid purposes — per Dept. of Education guidelines,) and not be in default of a student loan.
