NEW Chicago Area Scholarship

Ferris State University announces the Chicago Area Scholarship; a scholarship opportunity available to students entering Ferris State University for the first time in the 2008-2009 academic year as new freshman or transfer students who learn in Cook, DuPage, or Lake County, Illinois. Prior (Re-admitted) Ferris students, living in these counties are not eligible.

Effective for the 2008-2009 academic year, you may receive the Chicago Area Scholarship, the value of which is equivalent to the difference between Midwest tuition and in-state tuition (up to 15 credit hours per semester - currently the value of 15 credit hours is $4,500). You must meet the qualifications below:

  • You are a resident of, attend a high school in, or transfer from a college or university in Cook, DuPage, or Lake County, Illinois.
  • You enroll in an undergraduate degree granting program at Ferris State University - Big Rapids campus.
  • You complete the online Chicago Area Scholarship Application and submit it for review by the Office of Scholarships at Ferris State University.
  • This annual scholarship may be renewed three times providing the student is meeting the University's Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

Woodbridge N. Ferris Scholarships

Effective 2008-2009 academic year, Ferris State University offers several scholarship opportunities to first-time attending freshmen based on their high school GPA (Grade Point Average) and their ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores. The following is a list of such scholarships with their criteria:

WNF President's 3.70 29 1280 1920 $5,500 Can be renewed three times with a 3.50 GPA and full-time enrollment. Students admitted by January 10 automatically considered.

980 1500 $2,000 Must live in a resident hall. Renewable for three years with a 2.75 GPA, full-time enrollment and continued living in residence hall. Students admitted by January 10 automatically considered.

Only students at the Big Rapids, Kendall, and Grand Rapids campuses are eligible for the above listed scholarships. To be eligible, and to remain eligible, students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 Ferris State University credit hours.

* PLEASE NOTE:  Kendall and Grand Rapids students are not eligible for the Honors Residential Life or the Residential Life Scholarships.

If a student loses a WNF scholarship for failing to maintain full-time FSU enrollment, or the required minimum renewal GPA, the scholarship will not be reinstated in future semesters.

The value of the Founder's scholarship shall not exceed the cost of 15 credit hours at the undergraduate residency rate.

Please note: Students may receive only one of the above listed scholarships. Students will be offered the scholarship with the greatest value based on their eligibility (excluding Honors Residential Life).

Please notify the Scholarship Office if your scores change prior to the first day of classes to be considered for higher valued scholarships. please contact the Scholarship office at scholarships@ferris.edu.

** To be accepted into the Honors Program you must have a 3.40 or higher high school cumulative GPA, and a 24 or higher ACT composite. For SAT score requirements, please contact Tammy Babcock at babcockt@ferris.edu or call 231.591.2216. Click here to apply.

-GPA's listed represent a cumulative score and are based on a 4.0 scale. International Students - Credit, Hour, Mark and Outcome based grading systems will be converted into the American GPA (Grade Point Average) system.

Note: The ACT and SAT scores listed represent the composite test score. International Students - You may take the ACT (American College Test) or SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) at an American high school in your country. If you are a permanent resident or refugee, you may be eligible for Financial Aid.

  • Applications for  2008/2009 academic scholarships may be submitted beginning January 1, through May 1, 2008. All other scholarship deadlines are indicated on application.
  • In your search you may make a maximum of three selections, a minimum of one, to narrow the search to the scholarships that are most relevant to your interests.
