Financial Aid

Applying for Aid

How do you know if you qualify for any financial aid? You begin the process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to include Ferris’ federal school code (002260) on your application. Make sure you access the official FAFSA site – do not be fooled by imitators.

Step One

It is recommended that you begin the FAFSA process as soon after January 1 as possible, or if you are admitted after January 1, as soon as you are admitted. Some forms of financial aid are limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis to eligible students. You do not have to wait for the completion of taxes to file the FAFSA. For complete details, please click on the Deadlines link.

Step Two

Now that you are an accepted student, you can monitor the progress of your financial aid application by logging into MyFSU and checking the Academics and Services tab, “Student Requirements” link. If we need any documentation or are requiring you to complete any processes, the details will be listed at the Student Requirements link. We will also communicate with you via your Ferris email account.

Step Three

In mid-March, we will begin sending out financial aid award notices for newly admitted students who have successfully completed a FAFSA. Once you have received this notice in the mail, you need to review and accept or decline your award offer. For instructions on how to accept your award offer, please click the "How To" Tutorials link and select the "Accepting Financial Aid Awards" video or Quicklink instructions.

Step Four

Approximately one out of three students will be selected by FAFSA for a process called Verification. If you are selected for this verification, it is important that you complete this process by May 15. Please read the information and follow the instructions on the Verification link. Important Note: If you complete the FAFSA after April 1, and are selected for verification, you will be required to complete verification before you will receive an award notice.
