You can use ChkDisk in Windows 2000/XP to check your hard disk for logical and physical errors. It is normally best to use ChkDisk once a month in order to make sure your hard drive is functioning correctly. ChkDisk can be se to automatically locate and repair bad sectors on the hard drive.


  1. Open My Computer.

  2. Right-click on the hard drive icon and select Properties.

  3. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.



  4. Select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.



  5. Click Start.



  6. Click OK to run ChkDisk the next time you restart the computer.




    Next time the computer is restarted please allow 30 – 60 minutes for the ChkDisk to complete the scheduled operation.
