Home / Software and Hardware / Turn on/off MS Word Auto Format

According to Microsoft, the Word AutoFormat feature works behind the scenes to produce an attractive, easy-to-read document while you concentrate on the content. Word analyzes each paragraph to see how it is used in the document and then applies an appropriate style for that item. AutoFormat automatically formats Internet, network, and e-mail addresses as hyperlinks. It applies formatting to headings, bulleted and numbered lists, borders, numbers, and symbols while you're typing your document. By default, Word AutoFormat is set to "on". You can be turn off AutoFormat completely or just selected options.

  1. On the Tools menu.
  2. Click AutoCorrect Options.

  3. Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

  4. Select or clear the options you want.

  5. Click OK
