Ferris State University has recently made a wireless network accessible for all faculty, staff, administration and students. It is currently available in most outdoor locations, and will soon be deployed within many buildings. A current status of the availability can be viewed on the IS&T web site at the following address:

Listed below are detailed instructions on how to install and connect to the wireless network.
Requirements
802.11b or g wireless adapters, which can be purchased most electronic stores if your computer does not have a built in wireless networking capabilities.

Installation and Connection
- Install the wireless adapter to your computer
- Insert your wireless adapter into the PCMCIA slot of your computer, or USB port.

- The Automation Wizard will begin. Follow the directions of the Automation Wizard to ready your computer for connection. Refer to the instructions received with your wireless adapter for installation if the Wizard does not automatically recognize the adapter.

- Click Start on your desktop.
- Select and click on the Control Panel.
- Double Click on Network Connections.

- Right-Click on the Wireless Network Icon, and select enabled, if the network is not already.

- Right-click again, a select View Available Wireless Networks.

- Click on the Ferris wireless connection with the strongest signal and then click Connect.

- You should be able to start accessing the wireless network at this time.
Accessing the Ferris Network
- Insert the Student & Administrative Technology Services Startup CD, available at STS or Residence Halls.
- Go to My Computer and select the FSU Startup CD, double-clicking on the CD.
- Click Agree on the Disclaimer.
- Following this, the FSU Startup CD will begin to analyze and set up your computer. You will be asked to wait until this is completed.
- Once you computer has been analyzed, the Student & Administrative Technology Services welcome will pop up. Click Accept to begin downloading the required software.
- Next, the Anti-Virus Detection screen will pop up. To access the Ferris Network, you must click to Install Symantec Anti-Virus.
- Click I Agree on the Installation Agreement screen.
- After Symantec is installed, click Close on the Ferris Anti-Virus Screen.
- The Student & Administrative Technology Services screen will appear. Click Accept to continue.
- The CD provides information about the Ferris Network. However, you should be connected to the network.
- To begin accessing the network, you must log into Clean Access Agent using the prompt.
- To locate your password, visit https://wwws.ferris.edu/networkids/. After entering the last four digits of your social security number, you will receive your password.
If you do not have access to the Startup CD.
- Click on your internet icon and try to access the internet.
- If a Security Alert pops on the screen, you must click yes to proceed.
- The Ferris State University Network Authentication page will show up. You must type in your Ferris computing ID and password.
- The Network Security Notice will appear. You must download Clean Access Agent to proceed.
- A File Download Security Warning Screen will appear, click Run to continue on.
- The Internet Explorer Security Warning will appear, click Run to continue on.
- The Clean Access Agent IntallShield Warning will appear, click Next to Install.
- Click Finish when completed.
- The Network Security Notice will appear. You must download Symantec Anti-Virus to proceed.
- Complete steps 5-8 for Symantec Anti-Virus installation.
- You should now be able to access the Ferris Network.
