Webster's Dictionary defines a "festival" as a celebration involving festive activities, cultural events and entertainment. Ferris State University and the City of Big Rapids will be celebrating the arts through dance, photography, writing, music, stage performances and other activities, the vast majority of which are free of charge. We invite you to join in this year's celebration.
The Big Rapids community has embraced the institution of higher education that Mr. Ferris founded here in 1884, such that one would not exist without the other; the names of Ferris and Big Rapids have become synonymous. I would encourage you to endorse and support the Festival of the Arts in much the same way.
I would also like to thank all those who have helped to make the 2012 Festival of the Arts possible -- the individuals, volunteers, artists and event sponsors have our appreciation and gratitude for bringing the Festival to our community. I would encourage all of us to follow their lead by participating in and enjoying this February-long celebration -- it is part of what makes Ferris State University such an important part of our community and what makes Big Rapids such a great place to live, work and raise a family.
