Housing Specific Bus Questions
May students who have not signed a 2011-12 Housing and Dining contract receive a residency
requirement exception when they choose to commute using the shuttle bus service?
Yes. However, the University maintains a Housing registration hold on student accounts
for all students who do not meet the requirements to live off campus, and students
wishing to take advantage of the bus program must purchase a bus pass. The Office
of Housing and Residence Life must then verify in Ferris’ Banner records system the
purchase of the pass and the student’s home address in Kent County before the registration
hold can be lifted.
Similarly, for spring semester, holds will be placed on student accounts to prevent
enrollment in spring semester classes until a spring bus pass is purchased. Housing
and Residence Life will clear the hold upon verification in Ferris’ Banner records
system of the purchase of the bus pass and the student’s home address in Kent County.
Will students who have signed a 2011-12 Housing and Dining contract be released from
their contractual obligation if they instead choose to commute using the shuttle bus
service?
Yes. The Housing and Dining contractual obligation will be waived with a refund of
all unused room and board charges (along with the contract guarantee) upon verification
in Ferris’ Banner records system of the purchase of the bus pass and the student’s
home address in Kent County.
Students must demonstrate proof of bus pass purchase for the spring semester to avoid
reinstatement of the Housing and Dining contract for the spring semester. Failure
to prove purchase of a spring semester bus pass will result in financial obligation
for spring room and board charges.
Please note that class registration for spring semester occurs between late October
and early November.
Students not participating in the bus ridership program who do not otherwise meet
the requirements for living off campus are expected to live on campus.
