Accountancy/Public Accounting | Ferris Statewide | Ferris State University

A bachelor's degree in accountancy prepares you for a number of key positions in public accounting, private/industrial accounting, governmental/non-profit accounting, or accounting education. Accounting is considered to be a degree with endless possibilities; every business has accounting needs and this degree can help open the door to any industry. A degree in accounting leads to a highly respected and rewarding career. Accountants routinely earn incomes that are in the top 5 percent of their community.

As a result of increased focus on accounting in response to corporate scandals and recent financial crises, stricter laws and regulations will likely increase the demand for accounting services as organizations seek to comply with new standards. As a result, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of accountants and auditors will grow 13 percent from 2012 to 2022. As the economy grows, accountants will continue to be needed to prepare and examine financial records.

With an accountancy degree from Ferris State University, you will be prepared to offer employers the skills and experience-based knowledge that will make you an asset to any business team. This program also prepares you for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam as well as countless other educational opportunities such business school or law school. Because the accountancy program builds on a liberal arts foundation and includes a solid business core, you'll be in a perfect position to take advantage of opportunities in non-accounting business careers, too, such as banking, consulting, small business ownership or general management.

The accountancy program at Ferris State University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. ACBSP is a leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence.
