Health Information Technology
Growth in the health care industry has led to a rapid
expansion in the need for accurate and readily available
medical information. Health Information Technicians
(also known as Medical Record Technicians) possess the
technical knowledge and skills necessary to maintain
components of medical record/health information
systems consistent with the medical, administrative,
ethical, legal, accrediting and regulatory requirements
of the health care delivery system.
Associate of Applied Science
Admission Requirements:
HS diploma or GED
GPA min: 2.5
ACT min: 17 or college level English and math
One semester of high school biology and
computer science are highly recommended
or cumulative college GPA min. 2.5
Credit hours required for graduation: 63-66

Technicians can expect to find employment in
all areas of health care including hospitals, clinics,
physician offices, managed care organizations,
insurance companies and government agencies,
among others.
Graduates are eligible for the Registered Health
Information Technician (RHIT) credential by
sitting for the national certification examination
administered by the American Health Information
Management Association.
