Captain James Cook is the Assistant Director of Public Safety. He serves with the Director, Bruce Borkovich on the overall administration of the campus police department. He has served the department as a patrol officer, road patrol sergeant and detective sergeant before being promoted to his current position.
James Cook began his law enforcement career at the Mecosta County Sheriff's department in 1978. During his tenure at the sheriff's department, he served as Chief Investigator for the Mecosta County Fire Investigation Unit from 1984-1990 and has received specialized training in fire and traffic accident investigation. James is a firearms instructor for the department and teaches with the Criminal Justice Department at Ferris State University. James was appointed to the position of grant administrator for the Central West Michigan Law Enforcement Training Consortium in 2005.
