WCET, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) Cooperative for Education Technologies, has been active in the issues surrounding 'state authorizations'. See this blog post for a good description of the differences between 'on ground' rules and 'distance education' rules. Please note that while there is no longer a federal requirement regarding authorization for distance education, this does not eliminate the need to comply with individual state regulations.
Blackboard has developed a new report, which will go into testing soon at Ferris. This report will allow us to summarize "activity" information for a student, to determine the last date they had submitted assignments or been active in a course. Because just logging in or completing activities unrelated to the course content are not considered "activities" for financial aid purposes, this has been a difficult date to determine for some of our students.
This year's Online Learning Fair (originally scheduled for February 19/20, 2014) will be postponed. In place of the fair, the E-MAT and Online Teaching and learning Community of Languages and Literature are considering webpages which provide course examples. This would provide Ferris faculty with a 'just in time' option to research and review other courses for best practice ideas. If you would be willing to include a pseudo course shell that demonstrates your course design for others, please contact us at email@example.com!!
