<description>GRAND RAPIDS - Parents of Harrison Park Elementary School students are celebrating completion of their first college course, and Ferris State University is celebrating their efforts to imagine more.

An open house will take place Thursday, May 23 to mark the success of Care 102 at the Grand Rapids elementary school, where it began in January as a pilot career-exploration course. </description>

<title>Donnellon Receives College of Education and Human Services Distinguished Alumni Award</title>

<description>BIG RAPIDS - Tim Donnellon, sheriff of St. Clair County, has received a 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award from Ferris State University's College of Education and Human Services.

Donnellon graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and with high distinction. For the last 25 years, Donnellon's law enforcement career has taken shape in St. Clair County, where he has served as deputy, detective, sergeant and lieutenant before he was elected as sheriff in 2009. Donnellon was re-elected for a second term that started in January.</description>

<description>BIG RAPIDS - Doug Searles, a senior product manager at Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, has been recognized by his alma mater with the Ferris State University Pacesetter Award.

Searles, who graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, received the award during the Alumni Association's annual spring reunion in May at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids. </description>

Schalk, who earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the university's College of Pharmacy in 2006, received the award during the Ferris Alumni Association's annual spring reunion in May at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids.</description>

<description>BIG RAPIDS - Shaun Phillips, assistant vice president of Clinical and Ambulatory Services at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, has been honored by his alma mater with the Ferris State University Pacesetter Award.

Phillips, who graduated from Ferris in 2001 with a Doctor of Pharmacy, also serves as director of Bronson Battle Creek's Pharmacy Residency Program. He received the award during the Ferris Alumni Association's annual spring reunion in May at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids.</description>

<title>Ferris Student Awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Teach in South Korea</title>

<description>BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State University graduating senior Danielle Voorhies has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in South Korea. Voorhies, of Grand Haven, will leave in July for the 12-month program.

The Political Science major, who graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Science degree, was selected for an English Teaching Assistantship through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The highly competitive grant program sends qualified, motivated students to more than 140 countries to engage in projects that enhance cultural awareness and mutual understanding.</description>

Ferris Building. The university's Board of Trustees approved the name at its meeting on Friday, May 10, in Big Rapids. The change honors university founder Woodbridge N. Ferris. </description>
