Student Alumni Gold Club Eager to Participate in Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month

Student Engagement and Philanthropy MonthOn Thursday, Feb. 11, Ferris State University will join more than 100 educational institutions worldwide set to participate in Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month. This initiative has been organized by the Council of Advancement and Support of Education since 2013. It was created to increase student understanding of philanthropy and to encourage engagement across college campuses.

“One of our primary goals is to strengthen awareness for, and appreciation of, philanthropy among our students, faculty and staff at Ferris State University,” said Kevin Bunce, Coordinator of Alumni Relations and Student Alumni Gold Club Advisor. “We’re thankful that The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has developed this initiative and we’re excited to participate in an initiative that helps students better connect with donors, and to thank them for their generosity.”

Institutions from the U.S., Australia, Canada, England and other countries will participate in Student Philanthropy Day through “thank-a-thons” – daylong social media campaigns and student video interviews that focus on what giving means to them.

Ferris’ University Advancement and Marketing division, in collaboration with Student Alumni Gold Club, will facilitate a fourth annual Philanthropy Day “Tanks for Thanks” event. On Thursday, Feb. 11, SAGC members will host tables that will allow students to write “thank you” cards to various Ferris donors. In return, the students will receive a free tank top. The tables will be located in the University Center and IRC, from 10 a.m. until supplies last.

“Our philanthropy day really started from an idea that, as a whole, student groups really need to be thanking and giving back to donors in multiple ways,” Bunce said. “Student Alumni Gold Club is proud to continue its participation in this effort, and to partner with the University Advancement and Marketing division.”

Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month is part of CASE’s goal to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement, including: fundraising, alumni relations, communications and marketing. CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and advancement professionals who work on behalf of alumni relations, communications, development and marketing and allied areas.

CASE ASAP (Affiliated Student Advancement Programs) also provides programming, services and resources in advancement, including fundraising and alumni relations, for students and advisers at student alumni associations, student foundations and similar organizations at colleges and universities.

Students Andrew Klarecki, Gretchen Boley and Ethan Vincent showcase the new "Tanks for Thanks" apparel that will be given away to students who participate in Ferris' philanthropy day event on Thursday, Feb. 11.
