‘Music is in the Air’ Valentine’s Day Concert Set for Feb. 14

Valentine’s Day is in the air, and a special concert that will be hosted on Sunday, Feb. 14 in Williams Auditorium could help set the mood.

“Music is in the Air,” a Valentine’s Day concert, begins at 4 p.m. with free admission. The concert features the FSU Symphony Band, the FSU West Central Concert Band, the FSU West Central Chamber Orchestra and Scott Cohen, musical director and conductor and a professor of Music at Ferris.

The concert will include three centuries of rhythmic romance ranging from the romantic-era composers, Dvorak and Wagner to Disney’s 21st century classic, “Enchanted.”  The concert also features music from the opera and Broadway stages, a classic jazz standard; music from Spain, France and Germany; music with an Arabian flair, from “Aladdin,” and a light classic by Leroy Anderson.

Featured guests include Sarah Massey, a violin soloist, and Dale Skornia, an alto saxophone soloist. Donna Smith, a Ferris Communications faculty member, will assist as emcee.

Massey is a freshman at Ferris who will be performing the “Meditation” violin solo from the French opera, Thaïs, by Jules Massenet. Skornia serves as faculty director of the Ferris Athletic Pep Band. He will perform a saxophone solo of the sublime French impressionist classic, “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair,” by Claude Debussy.

For more information, contact Cohen at (231) 591-2484 or by email.
