TDMP Students Provide Coverage for U.S. National Rowing Regatta

Ferris State UniversityFerris State University Television and Digital Media Production students provided coverage for the U.S. National Rowing Regatta held in Grand Rapids in mid-August.

The TDMP students arrived each day before 7:30 a.m. and filmed heats of the event every four minutes until after 5 p.m. It was the largest regatta ever held in Michigan and included more than 1,400 boats racing in 200 events. Glen Okonoski, TDMP chair and an associate professor, noted that the program and its students received a lot of recognition and gratitude from the Grand Rapids Rowing Association, event organizers and attendees.

“I'm very proud of the TDMP program for the applied, hands-on approach we take to education and of engineer Pat Tobin, for his support of this effort,” he said. “Most of all, I am happy for the support and effort of the nine TDMP students who represented themselves and our program so well as they came together as a team to cover this event and grow from the experience.”

Students who participated included: Dominique Brookins, of Detroit; Sean Connelly, of Bay City; Tom Garbe, of Big Rapids; Sami Jo Lesniak, of Sturgis; Zakk Lucynski, Linwood; Katie Mavis, of St. Joseph; Chris Marston, of Fowlerville; Shannon Mellinger, of Vicksburg; and Lee Nickisson, Big Rapids.
