Ferris State University’s Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Sigma chapter attended Walk Now for
Autism Speaks at Ford Field in Detroit on Oct. 12.
“This was the first year our chapter attended Walk Now for Autism Speaks, our philanthropy. We met so many kindhearted people and so many of the different walk teams and learned about their stories of why they attend every year,” said Lyndsey Lampe, public relations vice president for the Delta Sigma chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. “The event helped put into perspective how many people are affected by autism and how many people want to help raise money for research and development.”
The event raised more than $200,000 to support Autism Speaks’ mission to fund research,
increase awareness, family services and to advocate for individuals with autism and
their families. Ferris’ Alpha Xi Delta chapter raised more than $300 at the walk.
The ladies of Alpha Xi Delta volunteered at different stations, such as Media/Stage, Walk Cheerleaders and Autism Advocates. More than 4,000 people attended the Detroit event.
“It was such a warm feeling when we told people at the event that we were college students and that we wanted to give back to society and to a community that is so involved with spreading autism awareness,” said Lampe, a junior majoring in Business Administration from Stockbridge, Mich. Lampe said that Walk Now will become a yearly tradition for the sorority.
