Teahen Receives Athena Award from Athena Grand Traverse

Roberta TeahenTRAVERSE CITY – Ferris State University Associate Provost Roberta Teahen received the 2014 Athena Award from Athena Grand Traverse during the 20thannual Athena Award Celebration at Great Wolf Lodge on Thursday, May 8.

The Athena Award annually honors individuals who excel to the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, excel in a chosen field, devote meaningful time and energy to their community, and forge paths of leadership for other women to follow. The award criteria includes: Demonstration of excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession, providing valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community and to assist women in reaching their full leadership potential.

“I am shocked. And I’m grateful, humbled and appreciative,” said Teahen, quoted in the Traverse City Record-Eagle newspaper.

Teahen was appointed Ferris’ associate provost of accreditation, assessment, compliance and evaluation in 2007. She serves as the accreditation liaison officer for Higher Learning Commission activities. Additionally, Teahen works with the University and Graduate and Professional Council and the Academic Program Review process. She oversees the Office of Graduate Studies and Perkins Grant administration. Teahen also serves as director for Ferris’ Doctorate in Community College Leadership program and as a member of its faculty.

During Ferris State University’s Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, May 9 in Big Rapids, Teahen was recognized for receiving the Athena Award.
