Planned Partial Campus Power Outage Set for Week of May 12

Ferris State University’s Physical Plant has scheduled a planned partial-campus power outage during the week of May 12.

The service interruption, scheduled from May 12-16, is necessary to investigate and identify the power-related issues that affected the campus late in 2013. Based upon deficiencies that are discovered, the planned outage may include repairs. The goal is to ensure a more reliable electrical grid. The post-commencement power service interruption dates were selected to minimize any negative impact to academic activities on the Big Rapids campus.

The portion of campus to be impacted by this planned electrical outage includes west of State Street, South of Ferris Drive, east of 205th Ave. and north of the wilderness/sanctuary areas.

Buildings expected to experience service interruption include:

  • Bishop Hall
  • Bond halls
  • Cramer Hall
  • Creative Arts Center
  • Henderson Hall
  • Puterbaugh Hall
  • Southwest boiler
  • Southwest Commons
  • West Campus Apartments
  • West Campus Community Center
  • West Commons

At this time, the planned power outage is not expected to impact the Allied Health (Victor F. Spathelf), Michigan College of Optometry or College of Pharmacy buildings.

In the impacted buildings, electrical power will be interrupted daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The extent of the power interruptions may vary from day to day during the week based on findings.
