HVACR Student Receives Funds from Hilmor Retool Your Future Contest

Granger Center for Construction and HVACRFrancisco Iniguez, a Ferris State University student majoring in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, was one of three next-generation HVACR technicians awarded $10,000 from the Hilmor Retool Your Future 2013 Scholarship Contest in December 2013.

Iniguez, of Sturgis, was the grand-prize winner. In addition to the scholarship, he received two Hilmor Starter Tool Kits. One of the kits is for him while the other goes to Ferris’ College of Engineering and Technology. The kits were donated by Hilmor and the CET one will be displayed in the Granger Center for Construction and HVACR. Iniguez also received all-expense paid travel to the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Expo 2014 in New York City in January.

To apply for the Retool Your Future Scholarship Contest, Iniguez wrote a 250-word essay that explained his personal story and his interest and experience in the program.

Raised by a single mother, Iniguez was born in California and raised in Mexico. He returned to the U.S. for school. While he was in high school, Iniguez worked the third shift as he prepared himself for the rigor of higher education. Iniguez believes that experience strengthened his commitment and dedication to the HVACR program.

“HVACR grabbed my attention since I am able to utilize my brain and my hands,” Iniguez said. “Pursuing this degree will enable me to have a better future. I am interested in HVACR because of the security it offers.”
