Student Government Approves Allocations for Organizations

The Student Government Association of Ferris State University approved allocations to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Social Work Association, to help fund their events, at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

For allocations approved by Finance Division of more than $2,000, registered student organizations must present details of their events in front of the Student Government General Assembly to request approval.

Alpha Phi Alpha will host a “Gold Mind Conference” on Thursday, April 10 in College of Business, Room 111. The Finance Division recommended an allocation of $3,737.75 to help bring Kevin Powell, an American political activist, to the Big Rapids campus to speak. The General Assembly approved the allocation. The Social Work Association was allocated $6,999.99 to bring Herman Boone, the real-life coach portrayed in the film “Remember the Titans,” to campus next fall as a five-star event.

Student Government also welcomed three new members into the General Assembly: Cristina Isac-Huggins, representing Panhellenic Council; Elizabeth Smith, representing College of Republicans; and Thomas Gladney, representing Lambda Alpha Epsilon.

Student Government meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in College of Business, Room 211.
