NAACP Student Chapter Aims to Raise Awareness of Fallen Youth

Ferris State University’s student chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is hosting a Candle Light Ceremony for Youth on Thursday, May 1 beginning at 7 p.m.

Several student organizations are expected to gather in the North Campus Quad in recognition of children who have died due to violence. Event participants plan to recognize the fallen youth and raise awareness to take a stand in violence in communities.

“Appreciate the life that you have that was wrongfully taken from our youth,” said Breia Harris, a junior majoring in Psychology and president of the Ferris NAACP chapter.

Every participant will receive a sky-lantern to be released into the sky in honor of each deceased child and teenager.
