Ferris State University professor Robert Friar will host his annual presentation, “Sex and the College Student,” on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in Williams Auditorium.
The popular presentation, which typically draws hundreds of students each year, is designed to provide accurate and unbiased information about sex and sexuality. Friar, who teaches human sexuality courses at Ferris, has become a national authority on the subject and quoted for pieces in Time, Newsweek and Playboy magazines, among others.
“I think discussing factors related to sex and sexuality is very important for people of all ages – especially for college students – to help them make wise choices about relationships and behaviors related to sex and sexuality,” said Friar, who has taught at Ferris since 1967.
His goal with the presentation, scheduled at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m., is to “provide information that will help people understand the issues so they can make the right choices for themselves.”
“I strive to not make anyone uncomfortable, and I strive to encourage everyone to make their own decisions with which they feel comfortable and that will protect them from harm,” he said.
“Sex and the College Student,” first presented in 2005, is part of the Academic Support
Center’s 2013 Speaker Series (see http://ferris.edu/HTMLS/news/archive/2013/september/speaker.htm).
