This summer, Ferris State University is gearing up for some educational fun through its academic camps in the month of June.
For young campers, opportunities to apply science, technology and math – STEM concepts – in a fun and educational way will be the focus of the All About Learning, Inc. “Learning with LEGO” sessions during the month of June in Big Rapids. All About Learning, Inc., a Sparta-based organization, aims to shape brighter futures for students in the kindergarten-through-eighth-grade age group in a hands-on fashion.
“Conference and Professional Services, at Ferris State University, is excited to announce a new summer camp program starting this June. Partnering with All About Learning LLC, we are able to offer a unique learning opportunity for those going into grades 1-8 in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” said Rebecca Burgenmeyer, coordinator of Camps and Conferences at Ferris. “This is a perfect way for youth in the community to continue to learn during the summer months through fun, engaging activities using LEGO. We look forward to seeing you this summer at Ferris State University.”
Kids in grades first through third will have two sessions that begin Monday, June 17 and run through Thursday, June 20. The Junior Engineering session is in the morning from 9 a.m. until noon while the Junior Vehicle Engineering session takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. In both sessions, campers will use the uniquely-developed LEGO kits to learn basic engineering principles, the forces of motion, problem-solving, communication skills and more.
Each session costs $145, and the registration deadline is June 7.
Beginning Monday, June 24 and running through Thursday, June 27, Ferris will host Elementary Engineering and Collision Cars sessions for students in grades four through eight. The Elementary Engineering session runs from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. while the Collision Cars session takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Campers will learn concepts that include basic engineering, simple machines, gears and gear ratios, and electric motors and energy.
Each session costs $145, and the registration deadline is June 14.
A university discount of $25 per camp, for multiple camps or multiple siblings, will apply. Visit the registration page for more details or call (800) 562-9130. Campers enrolled in both camps for the day are asked to bring a sack lunch. A room, monitored by Ferris State University staff or a counselor, will be available from 12 to 1 p.m. for lunch.
