Ferris Hosts Free Reading and Rhythm Celebration for Area Families

Reading and Rhythm CelebrationArea families are invited to the third annual Reading and Rhythm Celebration for free entertainment, fun activities and food on Wednesday, June 19 at the West Campus Community Center at Ferris State University.

The event, which runs from 3 to 6:30 p.m., is hosted by the university’s Students with Children program to encourage reading during the summer months. The first 50 families to arrive will receive a free book.

“By offering books to families, the children can take home a special gift to remind them of the information shared,” said Karen GreenBay, program coordinator of Students with Children.

The event will feature performances by popular children’s authors and entertainers. Ventriloquist Vikke Gasko-Green will perform at 3:30 p.m., and award-winning artist and interactive performer Kevin Kammeraad will follow at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner and refreshments will be served in between performances, and Ferris mascot Brutus will visit with families.

Representatives from Big Rapids Community Library, Great Start Collaborative, Big Rapids Rocket Football and Cheerleading Program, and Big Rapids Parks and Recreation also will be in attendance with information for families.

The Reading and Rhythm event is sponsored by Students with Children, Mecosta-Osceola Great Start Collaborative and the university’s Tot’s Place. For special accommodations, to RSVP or for more information, call (231) 591-3206 or email [email protected].
