Avid and novice cyclists can participate in the Bulldog Bike Tour on Saturday, June 29 to support scholarships for Ferris State University students.
The first-time event, sponsored by the university’s Alumni Association, is open to single and group riders as well as families. The tour through scenic Mecosta County includes 10-, 23-, 40-, 55- or 100-mile routes on paved roads or trails.
“There have been limited opportunities in Mecosta County for those who love to cycle and believe in the vision of Ferris,” said event organizer and avid cycler Kelly Seitter, a professor in the College of Engineering Technology.
The tour begins at the Student Recreation Center on campus between 8 and 11 a.m., depending on the route.
Early registration is $50 for participants who register by Monday, June 10. The fee includes an event T-shirt, food stops along the route and lunch following the ride. The registration fee after June 10 is $70 and does not include a T-shirt; participants must register by Thursday, June 20 to be eligible for the post-ride meal. To register, go to this website.
Day-of-ride registration also will be available.
McLain Cycle and Fitness will be on site before the event as well as along the various routes to provide maintenance. Support and Gear also will have volunteers available for safety and maintenance help.
“The response and coordination time for our emergency management group has been outstanding to ensure the safety of all involved,” Seitter said.
A post-ride afterglow will be held at Cranker’s Restaurant and Brewery beginning at 3 p.m. for alumni and friends. Free live music and appetizers will be available on the patio. A portion of the proceeds will benefit student scholarships.
Ferris State University cycling jerseys are $75-$80 and can be ordered by Monday, July 1.
