Alumnus Ira Childress to Speak to Students about ‘Adding “Leader” to Your Brand’

Ira ChildressFerris State University alumnus Ira Childress returns to campus Wednesday, Sept. 4 to discuss "Adding 'Leader' to Your Brand." His appearance at 7 p.m. in the College of Business, Room 111, kicks off the Fall 2013 Sports Speaker Series.

Childress' speech, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Sports Careers Registered Student Organization and the Sports Leadership Institute.

"Childress has been coming to campus the past five semesters," said Sandra Alspach, a professor of Communication at Ferris. "He's a good, dynamic speaker. It will be an early-in-the-semester motivational speech to help students start the school year positively."

A native of Baldwin who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Speech Communication and a master's degree in Education from Ferris, Childress also played football for the Bulldogs.

Childress, who joined Okemos High School as athletic director this fall, has been a TV producer and show host, radio sports commentator, events planner for Ferris Alumni activities, worked for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and operates Childress Sports Consulting.
