The 13th annual Ferris State University Torchbearer Awards Ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in Williams Auditorium.
The event is hosted by the university’s Student Leadership and Activities Office to recognize outstanding student leaders, student organizations, faculty and staff.
“This is the Student Leadership and Activities Office’s way of recognizing outstanding faculty and staff,” said office manager Ellen Schaffer. “The people we are honoring work very hard throughout the year, and we want to do something special for them.”
The ceremony includes presentation of The Torchbearer Award to a graduating senior who has displayed outstanding leadership skills in both the Ferris and Big Rapids communities. The Rising Star Award goes to a sophomore who is making an impact and developing leadership skills to make a change in the community. An advisor that goes beyond his or her normal duties to develop the student organization will receive the Outstanding Campus Advisor Award. The Initiative 125 awards are presented to students who have completed more than 125 hours of community service, and the Five-Star Registered Student Organization awards go to RSOs that are active in more than their own group.
A panel of Ferris faculty and staff review the applications and determine the winners.
Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. This event is business casual attire.
