Fall Semester Career Week Features Traditional, Virtual Career Fairs

Career Week“The Possibilities Are Endless” for students and alumni during Ferris State University’s Fall Career Week, beginning Monday, Oct. 1.

What used to be a one-day event has been transformed into a week filled with opportunities for students and alumni to network, interview and explore career options, said Carrie Adams, Career Services assistant.

“Everything during Career Week is geared to help students navigate the career-development process, whether they are a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior,” Adams said. “‘The Possibilities are Endless.’”

In addition to Thursday’s traditional face-to-face career fair at the Ewigleben Sports Complex, job seekers can participate in a Virtual Career Fair for the duration of the week. Students and alumni can “meet” with recruiters by creating an online account that grants access to potential employers’ websites for information and job postings, live chats and interviews via webcam.

“Career Week is an awesome way for students to begin ‘customizing their career,’” Adams said. “We know most job seekers obtain the careers they are seeking through networking and building relationships, so we encourage everyone to get involved and take part in all of the great events.

“There is no better way to hone and develop skills that are so critical when looking for internships, part-time or full-time positions.”

The week’s events also include a presentation by Don Green, vice president for Extended and International Operations, entitled “Future Career Trends.” Green, whose work includes development of new technology-, science- and business-related degree programs, will discuss scientific discoveries, technological innovations and social trends that will drive future careers. His presentation is 6 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.

Other events include a series of workshops on interviewing, hiring tips and job shadowing on Tuesday in the Rankin Center and Interdisciplinary Resource Center, employer sessions and presentations in various locations on Wednesday, Thursday’s traditional Career Fair, and interviews on Friday.
