Autumn Alive 2012 Features We the Kings, Fireworks, Costume Contest

Autumn AliveAutumn Alive, a popular concert event at Ferris State University organized by its Music Industry Management students, will be headlined by American pop-punk band We the Kings.

Tickets for the Thursday, Nov. 1 event at Wink Arena are $10 for Ferris students with a valid ID and $20 for the public, and are available at the Wink Arena box office, Rankin Student Center and Star Tickets outlets, (800) 585-3737 or The all-ages show begins at 7 p.m.

Attendees, who are encouraged to extend Halloween festivities by wearing costumes, are in for a treat, said Robin Fomusa, MIM senior, booking agent for Autumn Alive and a member of the Music Industry Management Association.

“We the Kings has been very successful during the past few years and has really gained a following,” said Fomusa, who booked the band based on a survey posted on the Autumn Alive Facebook page. “I want to bring in a diverse crowd and bring people together that might not normally go to the same show.”

The Halloween theme also lends an added element to the 2012 event. Ten creatively-dressed concert-goers will be chosen to participate in a costume contest judged by members of opening band Fireworks.

While Autumn Alive provides an entertainment option for Ferris students and the community, it also provides practical experience for MIM students through involvement in MIMA, a registered student organization that functions as a model production company. MIMA produces live events on campus that also include the Turn Up the Good electronic music festival each spring.

“Autumn Alive benefits students in the MIM program, because it gives them hands-on experience in what it’s like to produce a concert with nationally-recognized acts,” Fomusa said of the College of Business bachelor’s degree program, one of very few in the country. “We are in charge of booking the bands, providing security, setting up the dressing rooms, promoting the show and a ton more. These kinds of experiences are not available at other schools, and we’re really lucky to be able to get this opportunity.”

Since Autumn Alive began in 1999, the concert has featured big-name acts such as Train, Phil Vassar, Third Eye Blind, Joe Nichols and Taking Back Sunday.

The 2012 headliner, We the Kings, is a Florida band best-known for its hit song “Check Yes Juliet.”  The four-man group’s interactive video “Say You Like Me” in June won Most Innovative Music Video in Viacom’s O Music Awards, which honors achievement in music and technology.

Frontman Travis Clark recently announced on Twitter that the band, which co-headlined last summer’s Vans Warped Tour, has written a song for “Catching Fire,” the sequel to “The Hunger Games.” Their latest EP is “Party, Fun, Love & Radio.”

Detroit pop-punk band Fireworks, whose latest album is “Gospel,” has toured with New Found Glory, Saves The Day and Polar Bear Club.
