Sibs and Kids Weekend is a Magical Time at Ferris

Sibs and Kids WeekendStudents can spend a weekend creating magic with a younger sibling during Ferris State University’s Sibs and Kids Weekend Friday, March 23 through Sunday, March 25.

Ferris students can invite younger relatives to spend the weekend with them in Big Rapids, and have a blast for three fun-filled days of activities, including Potter Trivia and Inflatable Entertainment Night.

This year’s theme for Sibs and Kids Weekend is “Magic.” The entry fee is $25, which includes all activities, meals and a T-shirt for the younger sibling. Meals are not provided to students living off campus. Students can purchase a T-shirt for $5.

Events begin at 8 p.m. Friday in Wink Arena with magician Norman Ng, who will demonstrate “mind-blowing magic.” Ng, whose act includes audience participation, has performed in 48 states and for more than 500,000 people from the New York Hilton Hotel in New York City to the World Famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, Calif.

On Saturday morning, Brophy/McNerney Hall will turn into Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Students and their younger siblings can make wands, taste-test jelly beans and participate in Potter Trivia. The event begins at 10 a.m.

Joanne Robertson, director of Clark and Helen Ferris halls and advisor to the Residence Hall Association, said she hopes the “Magic” theme will appeal  to 6- to 14-year-olds, thanks to the popularity of Harry Potter .

Saturday’s events continue in the Ewigleben Sports Complex Multipurpose Room, where kids can bounce around in life-size inflatables from 1 to 5 p.m. Later that evening, “How to Train a Dragon,” will be shown in Brophy/McNerney Hall. Popcorn and soda will be provided.

“For students, this is a weekend of fun to connect with your sibling,” Robertson said. “A real great time with all of the events offered any age sibling or friend will enjoy.”

Fees can be paid in person from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday in the Rankin Student Center.

For those students interested in taking their sibling swimming, visit the Ferris Student Recreation Center or go to to obtain a “Minor to Adult over 18 Years of Age” waiver form. The waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
