Monster Dash 5K Run and Walk Event Helps in Fight Against Cancer

The Running Club student organization at Ferris State University, in collaboration with Colleges Against Cancer, is hosting a Monster Dash 5K Run and Walk to raise funds in the fight against cancer.

The Monster Dash 5K Run and Walk takes place on Friday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m. The course begins in the North Campus Quad and finishes in Hemlock Park.

The Running Club has hosted 5K events in the past. Last year, the organization held this event during homecoming week and enjoyed a positive turnout, according to one of the event organizers.

“I have a great time participating in this event with my friends and classmates. I hope to make an effort to fight back against this disease and raise money to help find not only treatments, but to also find a cure,” said Elizabeth Troost, Running Club member. “My hope is that someday we will no longer have to know the suffering and loss that is caused by cancer.”

This year’s 5K event is geared toward campus and local communities in an effort to help raise money for the fight against cancer.

The Monster Dash 5K Run and Walk allows student and community members to make a difference in the lives of those who need assistance, according to Troost. Participants in the event will receive more information about the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

All proceeds from this run will benefit the American Cancer Society.
