Laugh Courtesy of the Comic Genius of Jen Kober on Nov. 2 at Ferris

Jen KoberAccording to comedian Jen Kober’s website, people who bring cookie dough to her live show will make her even funnier. Kober is set to bring her comedy show to Ferris State University’s Rankin Student Center Dome Room on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. courtesy of Entertainment Unlimited.

This event is free, but appropriate for mature audiences only.

Allissa Witucki, interim director of Student Leadership and Activities, attended Kober’s performance at last spring’s National Association for Campus Activities conference.

“The reason we picked her is because she really played off the crowd and the interactions that were happening,” Witucki said. “She showed she was able to use improv. It was fun and interesting and something that we haven’t seen before.”

Chris Howell, EU vice president of internal affairs, added that Kober was “absolutely hilarious” at NACA and appealed to diverse crowds at the conference. He added that Kober relates in a humorous manner to students who may have problems with weight issues.

“I hope that people find the laughter in her sense of humor and take a learning experience out of this because she pokes fun at her weight. Students need to see a lighter view of things instead of taking things like weight gain so seriously,” Howell said. “It’s something the campus will enjoy.  She has the same problems that many people are struggling with as well.”

Event organizers believe that Kober stands out from other comedians Ferris has brought to campus because of her acting experiences. She appeared in season eight of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and played Lo’Quacious Jones in the MTV movie “Worst. Prom. Ever.” She also will be featured in the new “American Pie Reunion” movie, which is due out in 2012.

Witucki said the event is a free, fun and social event for students. She added that it is a way for students to interact outside of class without paying money for entertainment.

“I think she has a different kind of humor,” Witucki said. “If you take a look at her website, she has a comic strip about her going on. She’s a pretty funny girl.”

The event is sponsored by the Finance Division of Student Government.
