New Faces of America Takes Aim at Diversity from a Woman's Perspective

pictureIn honor of Women’s History Month, the program “The New Faces of America: A One Person Show,” will be featured at Ferris State University on Monday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.

The presentation, sponsored by Ferris’ Office of Multicultural Student Services, is free and open to the public.

“New Faces of America” showcases the diverse stories of a nationwide group of college students in a 65-minute production performed by one woman. Campus event organizers hope that Ferris students, faculty, staff and community members will feel connected to the stories that told as part of the event.

“You will learn more about diversity as it relates more to yourself. Any event, diversity-related, helps students see things outside the norm. Individuals will be more open-minded as it relates to looking at women through the eye-opening presentations,” said Michael Wade, assistant director of OMSS.

Through video and live performance, “New Faces of America” shares true stories from a female biracial college student, a southern gay minister, a young female veteran from the Iraq War, a Native American teenager, a young migrant worker, an Appalachian college student and a deaf African-American.

The presentations are taken from real interviews throughout America.

“This multimedia performance, we hope, will capture insight for all in the audience to learn more about cultures through the stories told,” Wade said.

Wade hopes campus and community members interested in the event will attend to broaden their knowledge of current national diversity and social issues.

“New Faces of America” was created by Will and Company. It is a follow up to the original production of “Faces of America.” This is, however, the first time “New Faces of America” will be performed on Ferris’ campus.
