The 21st Annual You Beautiful Black Woman Fashion Show promises to be a showcase of high-caliber fashion and design as Ferris State University students strut their stuff in Williams Auditorium Friday, March 18.
The doors of Williams Auditorium open at 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. The charge is $5 for Ferris students and $10 for all non-Ferris students.
“By attending students have the chance to view their peers, introduce their way of life, get involved and have a lot of fun,” Ferris junior Kiara Hunter said.
The 2011 theme is “RIP the Runway” as the fashion show features boutiques and hot fashion designers from New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids and Pennsylvania. One aspect of the event that makes it even more special is that the show’s fashions will be modeled by Ferris students.
Adding to the excitement will be the evening’s headline attraction, 25-year-old hip hop/R&B singer Lloyd, known for his debut single “Lay it Down,” a top-10 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list.
Designers scheduled for the fashion show include Wanda Grace, Jamilah-Beyonce Almansoob for Epiphany/Amor, Layop Clothing, Shirts Etc, Venito: 191 Eastern Avenue Southeast in Grand Rapids, the Ferris State University Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Amber Kirby for Ambiance.
“The Ferris State fashion show will be my biggest show,” Kirby said. “My line will include a lot of color for spring and we are presenting our swim collection as well.”
Some fashions items may be purchased at the conclusion of the show. Prices are expected to range from $20 to $170.
The YBBW RIP the Runway” 21st Annual Fashion Show is being funded by Student Activity Fees as allocated by the Finance Division of Student Government, Diversity and Inclusion Office and Office of Multicultural Student Services.
