BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s Dr. James “Jim” Woolen was recently made a
Senior Member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest
education and scientific computing society.
Woolen, department head of Accountancy, Finance and Information Systems, was considered and awarded this title because he has been a professional member in the ACM, has had more than 34 years of experience in the field, and was given three endorsements from colleagues in the field. The successful candidate for Senior Member must have demonstrated performance that sets them apart from their peers.
By being named a senior member, Woolen joined a distinguished list of colleagues to whom ACM, with its 97,000 members from more than 100 countries, will look to for guidance and leadership in computing and information technology. ACM works to advance computing as a science and a profession. As one of ACM’s prestigious Advanced Member Grades, ACM Senior Member status recognizes the top 25 percent of ACM professional members for their demonstrated excellence in the computing field.
Woolen has taught traditional classroom courses in programming languages (COBOL, BASIC), introduction to Information Technology for non-Computer Information Systems majors and computer concepts. He has also taught online courses in project management.
